If you work in the emergency department or as a labor and delivery nurse, you're bound to care for a patient with a precipitous labor and birth at some point in your career! These births can be fast and furious, and are not without risks to both the patient and the fetus. This course identifies the definition of precipitous labor, along with potential contributing and causative factors. A step-by-step approach of the emergent RN delivery procedure will be outlined, with a focus on prioritization of assessments and interventions. In addition, complications of precipitous labor and delivery will be discussed, along with nursing management strategies to keep the patient, the newborn, and the nurse safe!
