- Be an AWHONN *full* member (not an e-member)
- Maintain active licensure as a registered nurse or physician
- Have a minimum of two years of recent experience in fetal monitoring
- Have current involvement in fetal monitoring as a staff nurse, a physician, manager, clinical nurse specialist, advanced practice registered nurse, certified midwife, or educator that includes responsibilities for assessment of EFM clinical skills of others
- Maintain professional development in intrapartum, antepartum, high-risk care, and FHM through attendance at relevant continuing education activities
- Successfully complete the current edition Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course within the 3 years prior to taking this Intermediate Instructor Course

The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Accredited status does not imply endorsement by AWHONN or ANCC of any commercial products discussed/displayed in conjunction with the educational activity.

What is the responsibility of the Intermediate Instructor Candidate after completion of this course?
- Have up to one year and two opportunities to be successful in presenting the Teach Back Intermediate FHM Course.
- Must teach a minimum of 25% of the Intermediate Course for the Teach Back and the 25% must include portions of both the lecture and the skills components.
- Participants who successfully complete the Intermediate Instructor Course are considered "Instructor Candidates" until successful completion of a Teach Back Intermediate Course evaluated by an Instructor Trainer or a Designated Instructor.
TO MAINTAIN INTERMEDIATE INSTRUCTOR STATUS:
- Must maintain full AWHONN membership status
- Effective May 31, 2023, must hold certification by the National Certification Corporation in Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB) or Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM)
- Teach a minimum of 2 applicable courses over 2 years
- Maintain scores of 4.0 or above on a 5.0 scale, calculated from participant evaluations, in each course. This includes the teach back course.
- Complete the Conflict of Interest, Licensing Agreement, and Financial Declaration Statements annually
- Teach in accordance with the policies and procedures governing the Intermediate Course, as described in the "Instructor Guide" and The Beat Goes On. Instructors are responsible for presentation quality.

Course Details: |
This workshop is taught by AWHONN approved Instructor Trainers. The workshop prepares participants to teach the Intermediate Course. Content includes principles and application of adult learning theory as applicable for teaching the Intermediate FHM Course such as: integration of principles of adult learning into the didactic and skills course components, incorporate appropriate teaching methods and strategies during the lecture, demonstrate entry-level proficiency in teaching and guiding participants during the skill stations, and demonstrate knowledge of the assigned components during the micro-teach. Information about the administrative and operational aspects of FHM are presented. This course is the initial step for individuals who wish to become approved AWHONN FHM Program Instructors. Please note: This course requires the purchase of AWHONN's Student Materials ($225) directly through Kendall Hunt. Instructions for purchase of the AWHONN Student Materials will be provided upon registration. |
