Induction and Augmentation of Labor: On-Demand (50 minutes) Worth 1 Continuing Education Contact Hour

Induction and augmentation of labor has become increasingly more common over the past years, making this a priority course for L&D nurses. A thorough discussion of terminology will be outlined, along with maternal and fetal indications for induction or augmentation. Contraindications, candidates, risks, and benefits will be reviewed in detail. We’ll talk about the importance of the Bishop Score related to the management of induction, and outline both nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options. This course wouldn’t be complete without understanding the importance of an adequate labor pattern and identifying and treating patterns of uterine tachysystole. We’ll include a detailed discussion of all-things-oxytocin , including pharmacokinetics, titration, and other important considerations when utilizing this high risk medication.
