We'll provide a foundational breakdown of various newborn complications that can arise in not only term newborns, but also in late preterm (LPT) and preterm infants. We’ll discuss the pathophysiology, assessment, and management strategies for a number of potential complications, such as respiratory distress, thermoregulation, sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis, meconium aspiration syndrome, intrauterine growth restriction, infants of diabetic mothers, jaundice in the newborn, amongst a variety of other high risk newborn conditions.

Regarding breastfeeding and newborn nutrition, we'll dive into the physiologic concepts of lactation and lactogenesis, providing for inclusivity and focusing on patient education. Key concepts such as feeding readiness, breastfeeding positions, a proper latch, and various nursing interventions will be outlined. We'll discuss important hospital initiatives such as the "Baby Friendly" steps, and take a look at safe versus harmful practices during breastfeeding.
